Older peoples may have hidden holiday desires which they have not enjoyed in their younger age. The effect of aging does not mean that your seniors can’t enjoy the holiday seasons.

Here are the five activities to do to make the season less stressful and much more joyful four old senior citizens.

#1. Simplify and Compromise

You can simplify things that are used to do with your parents. For example: if your mom used to do all of the cooking and now can’t make the meal a family affair where everyone helps out by bringing a dish.

Or if your dad gets tired early. Change the meal from dinner to brunch. Other ways to simplify by reducing the number of decorations or offer to be your senior's hands and feet by doing shopping wrapping and mailing tasks.

#2. Help your seniors connect with others

Loneliness isolation and depression are often common during the holidays. So the best way to keep the holidays merry is to help your seniors connect with others.

If your senior can’t drive offer to take him or her to visit nearby friends. If getting out isn’t passable. Consider a visit by using an online video conferencing technology such as Skype video call, Facebook Group video call.

#3. Sharing and creating new memories

Sharing and creating new memories is another way of keeping the holidays upbeat and happy for your senior. Talking about their most vivid winter holiday memories or listening to favorite carols can be very helpful to seniors suffering from dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.

If your senior is bedridden wheelchair-bound or hospitalized. You can help him or she has new memories by creating a simple video that shares highlights of the season.

You could also connect them to online or televised holiday or worship services or arrange to have a group sing Christmas carols.

#4. Manage your senior expectations and activities

Sometimes doing all of the usual traditions can be too much. Especially if your senior's health is compromised. In addition, all of the activities sound sweet foods and visitors can be overwhelming.

Talk to your family about helping to set realistic activities and expectations for your senior.

#5. To ask for and get help

The last thing to do to keep the holidays Merry is to ask for and get help. If you’re doing a lot of caregiving have someone clean your house or that of your senior or consider hiring a professional in-home aged caregiver who can lend extra hands and lighten everyone’s load you.

Conclusion

So, these are some things that help your old parents feel happy internally in holiday seasons. Just think like as them and brainstorm what I want if I get older. Provide those things now for your seniors.
